【109年11月17日政治學系演講】The Nature of Africa: Conservation and Conflict in the Albertine Rift(以中文進行)

The Albertine Rift is situated at the heart of Central and Eastern Africa, a region known internationally for its violent conflicts, high-value natural resources, and endangered wildlife. Our understanding of nature and conservation in this part of the world is often shaped by these narratives, resulting in politicized ecological interests, conservation conflicts and green violence. Dr. Hsiao has been studying environmental cooperation in internationally protected landscapes in Central America and the Albertine Rift to understand its peacebuilding potential and shortfalls. She will share some of her latest research on communities and conservation in post-genocide Rwanda and facilitate a discussion on social science research in disrupted landscapes of the Global South.
